Attorney E. Michael Brezina, III To Serve As Adjunct Professor Teaching “Pre-Trial Litigation” At The University Of Tennessee College Of Law, Fall 2022
I am honored and excited to be invited back to serve as an Adjunct Professor teaching “Pre-Trial Litigation” at the University of Tennessee College of Law for the upcoming Fall, 2022 semester. Adjunct Professors – University of Tennessee College of Law (utk.edu) It is satisfying to be a small part of the development of young people who want to learn, are committed to their craft, and want to make a difference. This course is particularly important because most of the work performed by attorneys in modern litigation occurs in the Pre-Trial Litigation phase.
My Pre-Trial Litigation course includes extensive lecture and instruction on how to address and solve countless “real-world” issues and problems which often develop in litigation today. Early in the semester, the class is given a fictional “case” with a detailed fact pattern/summary. The class requires students to submit numerous written assignments/tasks relative to this fictional case, including preparing a Complaint, Answer to the Complaint, Interrogatories and Requests for Production of Documents propounded to an opposing party, Responses to Written Discovery Requests (including relevant objections), and a Motion for Summary Judgment, Rule 56 Statement of Material Facts, Memorandum of Law, supporting Affidavits, and other exhibits, Each student is also required to conduct an in-person deposition of a “witness” in this fictional case. Students are also required to orally argue the Motion for Summary Judgment before a Judge.
